Review the documentation below and follow any custom installation steps. If no install steps are listed, most Splunk Apps and Add-ons can be installed as follows:
Windows: Decompress the downloaded file using a tool like 7-Zip and place the resulting folder into %PROGRAMFILES%\Splunk\etc\apps. Then restart Splunk using the splunk restart command or the GUI.
Unix/Linux: Decompress the downloaded file using a tool like tar -xvf and place the resulting folder into $SPLUNK_HOME\etc\apps. Then restart Splunk using the splunk restart command or the GUI.
Description
This is an add-on for Splunk 4.1 and above. You must first download the RSS Scripted Input add-on from splunkbase.com to index RSS feeds. After indexing RSS feeds, follow the instructions in the README.txt for rss_reader to turn Splunk Web into a RSS reader. One of the fields being indexed by the RSS Scripted Input add on is called "link". A set of workflow actions have been defined to get to the article's link and have the content of the link show in a new window.
